Sample Retreat Material

"The Early Christian Wisdom of the Didache" Retreat Booklet (PDF)

I always provide a booklet or packet for participants to use at retreats.  The packet contains a guide for the day, including the day's program, opening and closing prayer, quotes for meditation, reflection questions, and small group discussion questions.

For this retreat, I used the early Christian document known as the Didache as a springboard for our reflections.  There are excerpts of the Didache in this booklet, or you can read this fascinating document in its entirety at earlychristianwritings.com.

Top 10 Reasons to Fast

TOP 10 REASONS TO FAST (PDF)

Fasting remains a part of our Catholic tradition, especially during the season of Lent.  But why do we fast?  This resource will both inform and encourage you.  Feel free to share!

Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Lover of Solitude

LITANY OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, LOVER OF SOLITUDE (PDF)

This beautiful litany is not the one you usually find if you "google" the term "Sacred Heart Litany."  This one highlights Jesus' love of solitude, his intimate relationship with the Father, and his union with those who seek him in solitude.  It makes me feel peaceful, and I wanted to share it.

The Resurrection Narratives in the Four Gospels

THE RESURRECTION NARRATIVES IN THE FOUR GOSPELS (PDF)

The Resurrection Narratives -- found in the last chapter of each of the Synoptic Gospels (Mt. 28, Mk. 16, Lk. 24) and the last two chapters of the Gospel of John (Jn. 20-21) -- are quite unique but share some similarities.  This resource (click on PDF file above) provides you with a brief synopsis of the Resurrection Narratives in each of the four Gospels.  It will help you quickly identify which story can be found in which Gospel.  You can also compare the stories and identify some interesting similarities among the different accounts (e.g., the Risen Christ eating fish and showing his wounds in both Luke and John).

Note that Mary Magdalene is the first to see the Risen Christ in all accounts except the Gospel of Luke, where she is still among the women who are first to discover the empty tomb.  That's quite an honor for one who was once possessed by seven demons (Lk. 8:2)!
